Abstract Chitin and its derived products have immense economic value due to their vital role in various biological activities as well biomedical industrial application. Insects, microorganism crustaceans are the main supply of chitin but shell like shrimp, krill, lobsters crabs commercial sources. content an individual varies depending on structures possessing polymer species. In this study edible crabs’ shells (Callinectes sapidus) were demineralized deproteinized resulting 13.8% (dry weight) recovery from wastes. FTIR XRD analyses experimental crude purified chitins revealed that both much comparable commercially purchased controls.
